Renton police arrest suspect accused of armed robbery spree

Renton police arrested a suspect who is accused of a series of armed robberies in a single day.

The Renton Police Department’s social media reported the suspect was connected to three armed robberies on Aug. 15.

Renton police were dispatched on Aug. 15 at approximately 4:50 p.m. to an armed robbery in the 100 block of Logan Avenue South.

According to the department, the victim in the robbery advised police that a man in a ski mask cut in line and stood behind him as he withdrew money from an outdoor ATM. As the victim turned to leave after collecting his money, the man in the ski mask aimed a handgun at him and demanded his cash. Following the robbery, the suspect jumped into the passenger side of a white Ford sedan and fled the scene.

Officers responded to reports of a second armed robbery at around 6 p.m. in the 300 block of Bremerton Avenue Northeast. The victims — a family — advised police that a man armed with a handgun wearing a ski mask approached the family in a vehicle after they picked up their son from daycare.

The suspect demanded money from the driver and the driver responded that he did not have any cash on him. The suspect demanded the driver’s wallet as he aimed a handgun at him. The suspect commanded the female passenger to look down and threatened that he “‘didn’t want to do something’ in front of their child,” according to the department’s social media. The suspect seized the driver’s wallet and passenger’s purse and fled the scene on foot.

Officers converged into the area after receiving the report, searching for the suspect and suspect vehicle.

At 6:03 p.m., an officer saw an occupied white Ford sedan in a parking lot of a bank in the 4500 block of Northeast 4th Street across the street from the second robbery that matched the description of the suspect vehicle. According to the department, the officer saw a man matching the description of the armed robbery suspect round the corner of the building, and the suspect noticed the officer and fled on foot.

Officers pursued and apprehended the suspect on foot, arresting the suspect without further incident, according to the department. A search of the suspect located a loaded handgun.

At the scene, a woman approached an officer and advised that the suspect had just forced her at gunpoint to withdraw cash from the ATM at the front of the bank.

All four victims positively identified the apprehended suspect.

Renton police booked the suspect into the King County Jail. The suspect remains in custody on $500,000 bond, according to the department.
