Memorial Day Celebration at Veterans Memorial Park: Remember and honor those who served their country. Located at 1000 South 3rd Street, this annual city event will be at 1 p.m. May 27.

June 1

Recycling Event: Mattresses, Box Springs, Tires at Renton Technical College: From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., bring your items to the city’s second recycling event of the season. The following items will be accepted: food donations; mattresses (must be dry and no excessive stains, no bed bugs and no blood stains, $30 cash for each piece); cardboard (must be flattened); tires (car, pickup truck and motorcycle bias ply; steel belted and studded tires accepted; take tires off rims; limit 10 tires; no semi truck or tractor tires). The Furniture Repair Bank will also collect gently worn and damaged furniture to be restored, repaired, and then gifted to community members in need. Items Accepted: Dining chairs (1-10+); side, coffee, or dining tables (for 2-10 people); small desks; armchairs; dressers; shoe racks; book cases; nightstands; lamps; and mirrors. Items not accepted: office or rocking chairs; bar stools; sofas and loveseats; futons; outdoor furniture. In order to donate furniture, an online application must be completed by Monday, May 27. Applicants will be notified by May 29 close of business if approved. Picture of item required. A limited number of items will be accepted and we reserve the right to reject any item on the day.

Renton Farmers Market Opening Day at Piazza Park: From 3-7 p.m., enjoy the fruits, vegetables, local wares and more from local vendors. Entertainment includes kid activities and a performance by Biff Moss. The farmers market runs every Tuesday at the same time until Sept. 24.

Free Museum Day at the Renton History Museum: Enjoy the wonders of the past with free admission to the museum from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free museum days are every first Wednesday and third Saturday of each month.

June 11

The Renton American Legion Fred Hancock Post 19 Business Meeting: The Renton American Legion Fred Hancock Post 19 meets the second Tuesday of every month, except July and August, at 7 p.m. at the Post Hall, 3224 NE 12th Street, in the Renton Highlands, under the water tower. All veterans welcome. Most vets eligible for membership. America’s premier patriotic veterans organization and the prime driver of the original G. I. Bill, the Legion focuses on service to veterans and has influenced considerable social change in America, won hundreds of benefits for veterans, and produced many important programs for the community, children and youth.

The Renton News presents Fem Allies In Business (F.A.B.) at Merrill Gardens: FAB - Fem Allies in Business, a professional women’s networking group. This free event is held every second Thursday of the month from 9 - 10:30am and includes a light breakfast, a networking activity, and an occasional guest speaker. Free Museum Day at the Renton History Museum: Enjoy the wonders of the past with free admission to the museum from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free museum days are every first Wednesday and third Saturday of each month.

Project Be Free presents Family Resource Night at VFW Post 1263: From 3-7 p.m., get connected with non-profits and organizations throughout Renton and South King County that provide counseling, legal support, support groups, youth mentorship and more. June 20

Café Vets: Monthly gathering of veterans and guests for coffee and refreshments hosted by Renton American Legion Post 19 and Auxiliary Unit 19 on the third Thursday of every month (except December) from 10 a.m. to noon. Come for coffee, camaraderie and goodies. Legion membership is not a requirement, though most veterans are eligible for membership. Post Service Officer will be on hand, in case someone needs assistance with a VA claim. No agenda, just veterans getting together with other veterans and their friends. Post Hall is in the Renton Highlands, under the water tower (3224 Northeast 12th Street).

Saturdays

Renton Parkrun at Cedar River Trail: This weekly 5K community event takes place every Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Cedar River Trail trailhead by the I-405 overpass. This free event does require registration but is meant to be a fun event where walkers, joggers, runners, volunteers and spectators can come together.
