A recently established Downtown Renton tradition has returned this October, as the Renton Municipal Arts Commission once again hosted a Halloween scarecrow contest for downtown businesses and organizations to decorate their storefront with the most festive strawman they possibly can.

Jessie Kotarski of the Renton Municipal Arts Commission said that roughly a dozen different businesses or organizations signed up to participate in the contest that took place on Oct. 28.

She said the judges for the contest were arts commissioners and volunteers from the community, but there was also a “people’s choice” category that allows the community to vote on their favorite.

After the voting, Kotarski said Macadons won the “spookiest” category, with a Michael Myers-inspired scarecrow, while Liberty Café won “most creative” and Drum Roll Wine won “People’s Choice.”

Kotarski said the event is a “fun way to fill the downtown with Halloween décor and spread the cheer throughout the business district for the day of the downtown Halloween party and celebration.”
